Department of Social Science

US History HIST 173 DL 1 Section-Fast Track 5 Week Summer Session

Professor: Renee White

Course Description:

A survey of the early history of the United States from the discovery of the Western Hemisphere to the end of the Reconstruction period (1877) comprises this course.  This course includes the political, social and economic factors important in the foundation of America.  The course is divided into three historical eras that corresponds to Part 1 through Part Three in the text.  Viewing it this way facilitates our understanding of our early history.  But due to the fact that this is an abbreviated class over the summer, you will be responsible for the first ten chapters only, not all three eras.

  1. Era 1    The Creation of a New America                       (1400-1771)
  2. Era 2    The Creation of a New Republic                       (1754-1824)
  3. Era 3    The Republic Transformed and Tested  (1815-1877)
