One Day per Week Nursing Program Honored by former Governor Tom Kean, Chairman of the Board of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and former President of Drew University

Ocean
County College's One Day per Week Program was honored
by former Governor Tom Kean at the annual grantee
meeting of the New Jersey Health Initiatives (NJHI)
a statewide grant making program of the Robert Wood
Johnson Foundation (RWJF), May 18, 2006. The former
governor is currently the Chairman of the Board of
the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and former President
of Drew University. He also served as the Chairman
of the 9/11 Commission. Governor Kean cited Ocean
County College for its innovative One Day per Week
Nursing Program which is funded by a grant from the
RWJF.
Governor
Kean described the program as a national model for
helping to reduce the nursing shortage. The unique
program allows individuals who are currently employed
in health care to complete the RN program in four
semesters while still meeting family and work responsibilities.
The one day face-to-face class is supplemented by
online lessons that provide the classroom content
in an innovative format. He declared that the initiative
helps recruit an entire population of individuals
to nursing who would not have been able to attend
a nursing program because of limitations of time,
distance, work and/or family responsibilities.
