Typical Day in the One Day per Week Program

A Typical Day in the One Day per Week Nursing Program

The clinical experience, face-to-face colloquium, and nursing laboratory are offered on a scheduled day during the week. However, students are expected to arrive either early in the morning (5 A.M.) or the evening before, to pick up their clinical assignments and prepare their patient research. Additionally, students must schedule time to practice their skills in a nursing skills laboratory which is available days and evenings Monday through Friday and on Saturday.

Nursing students participating in colloquium

The day of instruction will include a clinical session from 7 AM to 4:00 PM to accommodate coordination of clinical learning. A nursing skills laboratory training session and colloquium will be held following the clinical. The colloquium will allow face-to-face instruction with the nursing instructor to go over what the students learned online during that week. The focus will not be on content delivery which is achieved online but rather on follow up questions, critical thinking exercises, discussions of case studies to enhance the online instruction. Laboratory sessions (maximum of 15 students) will be available onsite during the clinical sessions, as well as at the Ocean County College main campus. This unique configuration allows coordination of clinical learning with cognitive content presentation. The clinical sessions will include all hospitals within Ocean County and approximately half of the hospitals in Monmouth County.
