The first results from our first ODPW class
Eighteen One Day per Week (ODPW) nursing students were compared to two cohorts of approximately 30 each of traditional students for nursing fundamentals which is the first semester of nursing (NURS 175). ODPW students clearly outperform the traditional face-to-face nursing students on the ATI's Content Mastery Series.
ATI Assessment-Driven Review >>
A program percentile rank refers
to the proportion of groups of test takers from
all associate degree nursing program nationally
(within a specified sample from the ATI data pool)
whose group composite scores are the same as or
lower than our OCC nursing group's composite score.

The results from the second and third semester
Again, the ODPW students are in the top percentile ranks of all associate degree nursing students nationally. We will try to do better in the mental health area next time.

The miracle continues with the second class of ODPW students
We doubled the size of our next class of ODPW students to two classes of twenty students. They again outperformed two cohorts of thirty students each of our traditional students. Again they are in the top percentiles of all associate degree nursing students nationally.
Take Home Message:
Students in the ODPW program must work in health care already which may give them a significant advantage in the nursing program.
