About Our AAS/RN Program

Nursing students dressing a woundThe Nursing Program was established at OCC in 1966 and has been noted for its excellence in nursing education and student learning. There are sixteen full-time faculty and twenty-four part-time clinical instructors.

The Nursing Program has different opportunities to obtain an Associates Degree (AAS) in Nursing leading to the RN:

1. The Nursing Day Program admits students for the Fall semester.

2. The Nursing Evening Program admits students for the Spring semester.

3. The One Day per Week Nursing Program is a unique program that is designed for students who are employed in health care and attend class face-to-face one day per week. They receive online nursing content at home on their computers. They are admitted for the Spring and Fall semesters.

Change: Students who are outstanding scholars and not employed in health care will also be considered.

4. The Career Mobility Nursing Program is an alternative program for qualified, practicing LPN's. We are now accepting applications for Spring 2009.

Ocean County College has become a powerhouse in producing highly qualified nursing graduates. More nursing students graduate from our program than most other community colleges in New Jersey which helps to alleviate the nursing shortage in Ocean and surrounding counties.

The program spans four semesters, generally following a 15-week semester format.

Students with disabilities

Students with disabilities are encouraged to contact the Center for Academic Services for additional assistance.

Great Book: Leave No Nurse Behind: Nurses Working with disAbilities by Donna Carol Maheady ARNP EdD

Leave No Nurse Behind by Dr. Donna Carol MaheadyThis book serves as both an inspiration and as a practical guide for nurses living and working with disabilities and for students with disabilities pursuing careers in nursing. Nursing with a disability is a challenge, but with proper planning, the right knowledge and perseverance, it is not impossible. The nurses who share their stories here are living proof of that.
