The program is designed so that all clinical and face-to-face colloquium are delivered in a single day of the week and within an existing hospital, allowing the students to keep their employment in healthcare. Online
components to the didactic (classroom) portions
of the entire nursing curriculum allow significant
portions of the courses to be taught in a web-assisted
manner, giving students major improvements in
access and learning. Lab skills practice is done by the student on his or her own time.
All
hospitals in Ocean and Southern
Monmouth Counties have agreed
to actively recruit their employees
and adjust their schedules to
take advantage of this program.
This
program of study is designed
for people who are employed in
health care settings and wish
to undertake professional study
leading to a Registered Nurse
license. The nature of their
employment (multiple shifts per
week that are lengthy in nature)
has been incompatible with a
traditional program of study.
Participants are strongly recommended to complete the College's
general education studies requirements before entering the One Day per Week Nursing Program. They may continue their current health
care position while attending an extended one day per week program, spread
over a two-year period. Classes and clinical experiences will be web-assisted
and provide a learner centered environment that is partially self-directed.
The clinical experience, face-to-face colloquium, is offered on a scheduled day during the week based upon clinical site availability. However, students are expected to arrive either early in the morning (5 A.M.) or the evening before, to pick up their clinical assignments and prepare their patient research. Additionally, students must schedule time to practice their skills in a nursing skills laboratory which is available days and evenings Monday through Friday and on Saturday.
Transfer or Returning Students
Nursing students who work in healthcare and are in the traditional program may wish to transfer to the One Day per Week Nursing Program. Likewise, students who wish to transfer into the program or returning students may also consider this program. The supplementary application should be completed and returned to the Director of Nursing Education who will present these applications to the Nursing Admissions Committee for consideration. Admission is on a competitive basis where GPA, TEAS test results, quality of the clinical experience and academic performance will be considered. Students may be considered for the ODPW program Nursing II, III, or IV classes.
Change: Students who are outstanding scholars and not employed in health care will also be considered.
Students with disabilities
Students with disabilities are encouraged to contact the Center for Academic Services for additional assistance.
