Aviation Program
OCC is offering a new instructional program in pilot training/aviation. Through a partnership between OCC and Ocean Aire Pilot Center, students can complete courses that will lead to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Private Pilot Certification - Commercial Pilot Certificate , and the OCC Associate in Science degree.
The associate degree requires students to earn 64 credits. These credits include 16 credits taken at Ocean Aire Pilot Center located at the Robert J. Miller Airpark. All of the other courses are taken at OCC. The Associate in Science degree will transfer to four-year colleges and universities that offer a Bachelor of Science degree in aviation.
Upon successful completion of the four flight courses, students will receive FAA certification for a private pilot license, instrument rating, and commercial license. Graduates are expected to find employment as commercial pilots, charter pilots, military pilots, and in corporate aviation with regional airlines.
Students will pay OCC tuition and will pay additional fees for the four flight-training courses at Ocean Aire. Flight courses include "Introduction to Flight," "Instrument Flight," and "Commercial Flight I and II."
Ocean Aire Pilot Center offers unparalleled state-of-the-art pilot training. Students will receive computer-based instruction on a flight simulator that includes interactive graphics, full-motion, full-screen video, and animated graphics. The computer-based instruction works hand-in-hand with the student's actual flight experience in single engine planes (Cessna 152 and Cessna 172). During the program, students will take an FAA written exam and at the end, a flying test called a "check ride."
