Engineering Summer Internships at NAVAIR


NAVAR Internship at Lakehurst Naval Air Engineeing Station

This may be the opportunity of a lifetime for students seeking a career in engineering!

News: Students have been selected for the summer 2008 internship. Please consider applying for 2009.

Photo courtesy US NavyThere are a limited number of summer internships available at the award winning Lakehurst Naval Air Engineering Station (NAES) for Ocean County College students who are pursuing careers in engineering. NAVAIR at NAES Lakehurst is the high tech world leader in Aircraft Launch and Recovery Equipment (ALRE) and Support Equipment (SE).

Their mission, the Aircraft Platform Interface (API), assures that fixed and vertical wing aircraft operate safely and effectively from aircraft carriers, air capable ships and expeditionary airfields worldwide.

Our students will be assisting the NAVAIR engineers in completing this mission. They will receive 3 credits for the summer internship as well as receiving an hourly wage for their work.

To Apply:

You must meet the following requirements

  1. All applicants must have earned a high school diploma or GED. Official Transcripts must be provided - college and high school
  2. You must be enrolled in OCC's AS in Engineering Science Program.
  3. Applicants must meet ONE of the following three options:
    • Earned scores on ACT examinations - Composite - 24 or SAT I minimum of 1100 combined Math and Critical Reading
    • A cumulative college GPA of 3.0 with all college courses. All previous colleges are considered.
    • Be a member in good standing of the NJ Stars program.
  4. You must submit a letter of interest (300 words or less) describing your background and why you believe this internship would benefit your future educational and career goals. Make sure to include your current address, phone numbers (home, cell, etc.), and e-mail address.
  5. A letter of recommendation from a college professor, high school teacher or other educator.
  6. Students must meet appropriate citizenship and security clearance requirements set by NAVAIR and the federal government.

Students will be notified by May of each year of their acceptance into the summer internship. All selections will be made by a summer internship admissions committee based upon the above criteria. Students must sign up and pay for INTR-290 Internship I before starting their internship.
