Engineering technology is that part of the technological field which requires the application of scientific and engineering knowledge and methods, combined with technical skills, for the implementation and extension of existing technologies.
Civil and construction technology courses specialize in general contracting, heavy/highway and building construction, mechanical and electrical contracting and consulting.
It helps to sharpen the student's skills in construction as a general contractor, project manager, safety specialist, estimator, scheduler, structural designer, temporary structures and concrete form-work designer, and many other positions whose duties and responsibilities ensure that construction projects are completed on-time, on-budget and of the desired quality.
AS General Studies
This program is for those students who wish to explore career fields or to build an individualized program to meet special career needs by drawing from components of existing career programs. Students may plan either transfer or career programs to meet the requirements for the Associate in Science degree by completing:
a) At least 18 hours beyond college core curriculum from one college department.
b) A minimum of 30 hours of general education courses. Students who are planning transfer programs should take ENG-152.
c) Sufficient additonal hours to meet the general requirements for the degree as outlined in the section on degrees.
Transfer to NJIT's BSET Program
Students who complete specific courses in civil and construction technology can transfer them to New Jersey Institute of Technology's B.S. in Engineering Technology (BSET) Program on a course by course basis.
