Welcome!
Welcome to Ocean County College's English
and Literature Department. It is home to 30 full-time
faculty and over 60 adjunct faculty who teach courses
in reading, writing, basic skills, and over 25 electives
in literature.
We offer a variety of developmental, general education,
and elective courses. Six levels of ESL courses are
geared toward foreign students who need to develop basic
skills in the English language. Four developmental courses
in reading and writing prepare under-qualified students
to begin college-level coursework. All students enrolled
in degree programs at Ocean County College complete
English I and English II, a required sequence of core
writing courses. Beyond these degree requirements, students
may choose from a wide array of literature and writing
electives that serve to develop an English major or
to incorporate a humanities' perspective into all degree
programs. Detailed information about each course offering
is linked above.
