Karate: The perfect activity for the health conscious person
Karate positively addresses and develops all components of health and wellness. Karate is a great physical conditioner. It gives the cardio-respiratory system a great aerobic workout. The training develops muscular strength and endurance. it improves flexibility, timing, balance, coordination, agility and power. The workout stimulates the metabolism and burns significant calories to help effectively manage weight and improve body density. In addition to the physical benefits, karate develops a persons self defense abilities which positively builds self image. It improves one's ability to develop emotional control, self discipline and spiritual strength. Karate is taught by an outstanding professor: Scott Heilman.
Course Descriptions
HEHP 210 Karate I 2 s.h. (1 + 2)
An elective course designed for students and adults of the community who wish to learn the mechanics and techniques of karate as a means of self-defense.
HEHP 211 Karate II 2 s.h. (1 + 2)
An elective course where the student will be given an opportunity to develop proficiency in advanced karate techniques including combinations, advanced kata (form exercises) and semi-free kumite (sparring). During course
time exploration will expose students to advanced and tournament level martial arts techniques. Prerequisite: HEHP 210 or consent of instructor.
