Ocean County College offers two placements tests, the ACCUPLACER test and the College Level Mathematics Placement Test, in order to place students in the appropriate mathematics course.

All Associate Degrees require at least one course of college level mathematics. The course(s) required depends on the chosen major. Some incoming students must take a basic algebra placement test, ACCUPLACER. Any student who does not obtain a minimum score of 76 on the Algebra Section of ACCUPLACER must take developmental courses in algebra. Students who obtain the minimum score are able to register for most of the 100 level mathematics courses.

Any student who wishes to enroll in an upper level mathematics course, MATH 191 or higher, must take the College Level Mathematics Placement Test in order to register. Students will be placed in the appropriate mathematics course based on their test scores.

Not all students will have to take the ACCUPLACER test. Students are exempt from taking the ACCUPLACER test if they have:

  (1) scored a minimum of 530 on the SAT Mathematics section, or

  (2) scored a minimum of 250 on the HSPA test, or

  (3) transferred in a college level mathematics course from another institution, or

  (4) earned a Bachelor's Degree.

All ACCUPLACER and College Level Mathematics Placement Tests are administered by the Ocean County College Testing Center.
