OCC has teamed up with McGraw-Hill Publishing and Hands-On Labs, Inc. to deliver the entire course through WebCT.

Course Description

BIOL 131 Human Anatomy & Physiology II

4 s.h. (3 + 2)

This course studies the cardiovascular system; the immune system; respiratory, digestive and urinary systems; fluid and electrolyte balance; and reproduction. Dissection and instrumentation reinforce all lecture materials. Dissection and laboratory instrumentation reinforce all lecture material.

Prerequisites: Anatomy and Physiology I BIOL 130 required.

Note: BIOL 130 Human Anatomy & Physiology I is also available online in the Fall of 2007.

Required Text

Students must purchase a special addition of the required text: Saladin, K. S. (2007). Anatomy and Physiology: The Unity of Form and Function (Fourth Edition). New York : McGraw-Hill Publishing, Distance Learning Edition.

Approximate cost for book and access fee – $275

Students who have purchased the book previously for A&P I may purchase a separate access code for approximately $100.

Students must purchase lab kit and microscope


Microscope with oil immersion lens available through At-Home Science, Inc.Vass, Laszlo (2006). Anatomy and Physiology I Independent Laboratory Exercises Laboratory Manual and Lab Kit: available through LabPaq

AP-2 Kit. Approximate cost for kit – $259.

Microscope with Oil Immersion Lens, available from LabPaq Approximate cost for microscope ($89) and lens ($40) - $ 129. Students who have already purchased a microscope for BIOL 130 do not need to purchase another.

Students are required to purchase both the laboratory kit and microscope at least two weeks before the semester begins. These materials are available (rush delivery is an option) from the above web link.

AP-2C Kit for students who already purchased AP-1

This kit is designed for students who took Anatomy & Physiology, first semester using the AP-1 kit. Some slides and equipment from the first kit will be needed in the AP-2 class.

Approximate cost for kit – $218.

 

Tuition and Fees

Tuition and Fees are based on 4 semester hours and a $100 DL fee.

Safety

The LabPaq kits are safe, cost-effective and environment-friendly. The kits include a lab manual plus the basic equipment and supplies required to complete the full semester of lab assignments described in each manual. Students need to carefully follow the safety guidelines provided.


Who should take this course online?



  • Student with laptop computerAdvanced placement or highly motivated high school students who wish to get a jump start on OCC's nursing program.
  • Students who work full time and find it difficult to attend classes face-to-face because of time contraints.
  • You must be an excellent student who is comfortable with computers.
  • You should be a self starter and good at following directions.
  • You must have taken Anatomy and Physiology II with a grade of C or better. Current high school students must have the permission their guidance councelor.
  • You should have excellent reading comprehension skills. Students who are in developmental courses should not take this course online.
  • Potential nursing students considering the One Day per Week Nursing Program.
