BIOL 161 Biology I Online

OCC has teamed up with McGraw-Hill Publishing and LabPaq to deliver the entire course through WebCT/Blackboard CE 6.0.

Course Description: BIOL 161 Biology I 4 credits

Major concepts discussed include cell structure, bio-chemical reactions, energy relationships, evolution and the dynamics of plant functions. High school biology or BIOL 114 required. High school chemistry recommended.

Students must purchase lab kit


Independent Laboratory Exercises Laboratory Manual and Lab Kit: available through LabPaq, Denver Colorado. LabPaq (BK-2A) Approximate cost for kit – $189.00

Students should purchase the laboratory kit as soon as the course begins. They ship the lab kits the day they are ordered.

Tuition and Fees

Tuition and Fees are based on 4 semester hours and a $100 DL fee.

Safety

The Hands-On Labs kits are safe, cost-effective and environment-friendly. The kits include a lab manual plus the basic equipment and supplies required to complete the full semester of lab assignments described in each manual. Students need to carefully follow the safety guidelines provided.


Who should take this course online?

Student with laptop computer

  • Students who work full time and find it difficult to attend classes face-to-face because of time contraints.
  • You must be an excellent student who is comfortable with computers.
  • You should be a self starter and good at following directions.
  • You should have excellent reading comprehension skills. Students who are in developmental courses should not take this course online.
