PHYS 171 Physics I Online


Spring Semester 2008

Physics I OnlineOcean County College is the first community college in the Northeastern United States to develop an algebra based Physics I course and place it totally online with both content and laboratory being directed via distance learning. OCC has teamed up with LabPaq to deliver the entire course through WebCT.

Students must purchase lab kit


Independent Laboratory Exercises Laboratory Manual and Lab Kit: available through LabPaq, Denver Colorado. LabPaq

(PK-1 Kit) Approximate cost for kit - $95

Students should purchase the laboratory kit at least two weeks before the semester begins, and the kit is available (rush delivery is an option) from the above web link.

PHYS 171 Physics I

Dr. Felix Rizvanov. Photo courtesy of Dr. Jim BrownA laboratory course dealing with the major areas of physics. These include measurement, mechanics, heat and sound. The basic principles of these topics are studied in terms of their applications.

Dr. Felix Rizvanov is an international scientist, a biophysicist from the former Soviet Union, and an outstanding designer of online courses in science.

 

Tuition and Fees

Tuition and Fees are based on 4 semester hours and a $100 DL fee.

Safety

The At-Home Science kits are safe, cost-effective and environment-friendly. The kits include a lab manual plus the basic equipment and supplies required to complete the full semester of lab assignments described in each manual. Students need to carefully follow the safety guidelines provided.


Who should take this course online?



Student with laptop computer

  • Students who work full time and find it difficult to attend classes face-to-face because of time contraints.
  • You must be an excellent student who is comfortable with computers.
  • You should be a self starter and good at following directions.
  • You should have excellent reading comprehension skills. Students who are in developmental courses should not take this course online.
  • High school juniors and seniors wishing to get a jump start on taking college courses.
