What is EOF?
EOF stands for the Educational Opportunity Fund. It is a state-funded program offering academic, financial and counseling support services to students who meet the selective criteria set forth by the NJ Commission on Higher Education. EOF supports a wide array of campus based outreach and support services at 28 public colleges and universities. Ocean County College is one of 19 participating New Jersey community colleges.

Why do I have to have an interview?
EOF is not an entitlement program and there are requirements that must be met if you are to be accepted. The interview helps us to determine whether you meet state income requirements and also assists us in determining your motivation and potential to succeed in college. We can only do that through a face-to-face meeting.

Can the EOF program help me to pay for my books?
If you are accepted into the program, you will receive a small financial grant that is part of your financial aid award package. If this award is sufficient to pay the cost of tuition and fees, you may have remaining funds available for the purchase of books. The Financial Aid Office will determine whether or not you will be able to charge the cost of books against your financial aid award.

Do I have to repay the EOF grant?
No. The award is a grant and not a loan and therefore no repayment is required.

Is this a program for single parents and minority students?
No, this is a program for students with a history of low income and no previous college experience. You do not have to be a parent or a member of a minority group. We make awards strictly based upon state economic and poverty guidelines, and potential to benefit.

Can I receive an EOF grant and Financial Aid?
Yes. The EOF grant is a form of financial aid. Your eligibility for this grant and other aid is preliminarily determined based upon the income information you provide on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Many students who receive an EOF grant also receive the Federal Pell Grant and state Tuition Aid Grant (TAG).

Do I have to apply for EOF every year?
You do not need to complete another application, but you must file your FAFSA annually to continue to receive EOF and other financial aid.

What are the requirements to maintain my EOF eligibility?
You must meet with your assigned counselor at least once a month, go to two workshops or seminars each semester and maintain a 2.0 Grade Point Average. You must be a full-time student and attend tutoring sessions if so advised.
