Instructions To Apply For Student And/Or Alternative Loans

  1. Students Applying for Federal Stafford or Third-Party Alternative Loans must complete, date, and sign this worksheet.

  2. As of July 1, 2010, all colleges, universities, and proprietary schools eligible to receive funding for their students under the Federal Stafford and PLUS loan programs are required to process these loans under the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan program. Any student and/or parent who previously borrowed Federal Stafford and/or PLUS loans through private lenders (e.g., Wachovia, Sallie Mae, NelNet, etc.) must complete a new promissory note in order to receive loan funds for the current academic year. Promissory notes MUST be completed at www.studentloans.gov. No paper promissory notes are available at the Financial Aid Office.

  3. The loan application process is not complete unless Stafford Loan Entrance Counseling has been completed. Entrance counseling MUST be completed online at www.studentloans.gov.
  4. You may be asked to provide a copy of your social security card and driver’s license.

■ File the Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
■ Be enrolled in a Degree or eligible Certificate program  
■ Understand my loan amount will depend on my financial aid eligibility and cannot exceed the total cost of education  minus any other aid I may receive.   
■ Register and maintain enrollment in 6 credits
■ Not currently be in default or owe an overpayment on prior Aid
 ■ If I apply for a Fall only loan, I must reapply for additional loan funds upon registering for the Spring and Summer terms.
