Orientation
Orientation is required for all first time full-time
students. Students who have completed the College's
placement test or have submitted passing scores
on the SAT, will receive a letter of invitation
from the Coordinator of Orientation to attend
a three-hour orientation session.
The
Orientation Program begins with
meeting an Orientation Leader,
who is either a current OCC student
or a recent OCC graduate. The
Orientation Leader will take
you on a campus tour, highlight
the student support services
available to you, and discuss
the following topics:
College
success tips
The
academic calendar
Expectations
of the faculty
Benefits
of clubs
and organizations
Time
management
Academic
Advising is of vital importance
to all college students. In the
second half of the orientation
program, students will have the
opportunity to meet with academic
advisors and learn about being
a college student in general
and an Ocean County College student
specifically. A "steps
to student success" power
point presentation will be used
to cover the following topics:
Steps
to choosing your degree and
selecting your major
The
results of your placement test
and what they mean
Understanding
the Advising process
Where
to go for help
Selection
and registration for first
semester classes
The
program concludes with students
registering for classes with
the assistance of an academic
advisor. |
