Transferring In

""We are pleased to learn of your interest in transferring to Ocean County College. Since many individuals desire to enroll, we urge you to begin the transfer process as early as possible.

  1. Please begin the process by submitting an application for admission to the Registration and Records Office at the earliest possible date. 

    Be sure to answer all questions on your application for admission.  Receiving transfer credits from previously attended institutions will depend on what degree program you wish to attend while at Ocean County College.  Please note Ocean County College will not award transfer credits for a student who is not enrolled in a degree seeking program.

  1.  Contact the Records Office at your current institution to request an official transcript be sent to the Registration and Records Office at Ocean County College:

    Ocean County College will evaluate your previous transcripts on the following criteria:

    Accreditation – Students may only receive transfer credits from regionally accredited colleges or universities.

    (MSA) Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools
    (NASC) The Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges
    (NCA) North Central Association of Colleges and Schools
    (NEASC-CIHE) New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc. Commission on Institutions of Higher Education
    (SACS-CC) Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges
    (WASC-Sr) Western Association of Schools and Colleges/Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities
    (WASC-Jr) Western Association of Schools and Colleges Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges

    Military transcripts – Transfer credits may be awarded based upon ACE recommendations. 

    Degree program – Students will not receive transfer credits which will not fulfill requirements in their chosen curriculum at Ocean County College. 

    Course equivalency – Transfer credit is awarded based upon the course content corresponding with course offered at Ocean County College.  Students will not receive credits from a remedial or development courses.

    Course grade – Courses must be completed in good standing with the sending institution.  Credits earned at previously attended colleges or universities with pass/fail performance are not transferable. 

    CLEP Testing Scores – Transfer credit given for CLEP testing will appear as transfer credits on the student records.  Not all CLEP exams will award transfer credits.

    GPA – Courses a student receives in transfer will appear as transfer credits on their Ocean County College transcript.  Previous grades do not transfer and will not affect the student’s Ocean County College grade point average. NOTE: Students GPA will affect student’s pursuing a Nursing degree at Ocean County College

    Maximum amount of transfer credits – One-half total number of semester hours required for the Associate degree.

  2. The next step is to request test results from Basic Skills tests you took at your current college be sent to the Testing Center at Ocean County College:

    To be exempt from taking the college placement test a student must satisfy one of the following.

    • Receive college level English and or Math in transfer based upon an evaluation of a submitted official transcript
    • Have the following scores:
      • SAT: Math 530+     Critical Reading 540+
      • HSPA: Math 250+   Verbal 235+
  3. Register for class.
