Information for Veterans

Pick up a paper application at the Financial Aid Office located in the Administration Building (#9) on Ocean County College’s campus

Once you receive your certification for Veterans Affairs benefits make an appointment with the Veterans Certifying Official (currently located in the Financial Aid Office at Ocean County College). Email finaid@ocean.edu to schedule an appointment.

*Be sure to bring your DD Form 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty to your appointment with the Veterans Certifying Official at Ocean County College.*

  1. Choose a degree program and apply to the college

Note: Students are not eligible to receive aid for the following degree programs at Ocean County College:

  • Pre-Associate Certificates: Gerontology, Interpreter Training
  • Associate Degrees: AS Human Services Technician, AS Teaching Assistant/Child Care
  • Associate Joint Admissions to OCC/NJIT
  • AS Business Administration and On-Site online Nursing Program (4/21/2010)

Be sure to answer all questions on your application for admission.  Receiving transfer credits from previously attended institutions will depend on what degree program you wish to attend while at Ocean County College.  Please note Ocean County College will not award transfer credits for a student who is not enrolled in a degree seeking program.

  1. Determine Placement

All students must take the placement test to determine their appropriate level of math and English. 

Schedule a Placement Test at the Testing Center

To be exempt from taking the college placement test a student must satisfy one of the following:

  • Receive college level English and or Math in transfer based upon an evaluation of a submitted official transcript from another college or university
  • Have the following scores:
    • SAT: Math 530+     Critical Reading 540+
    • HSPA: Math 250+   Verbal 235+
  1.  Submit Military Transcripts

Many veterans or active duty military members may be eligible to receive transfer credits though their military experience and previously earned college credits.   Submit your official AARTS (The Army/American Council on Education Registry Transcript System), SMART (Sailor/Marine/ACE Registry Transcript), CCAF (The Community College of the Air Force), Coast Guard Institute, and CLEP Examinations directly to the for evaluation.
