The Novins Planetarium is one of the largest and most active planetariums in New Jersey. New technology provides Planetarium staff with exciting new ways to bring you the wonders of the universe and you'll find a variety of programs for all ages. Our very youngest visitors can explore the night sky with One World, One Sky: Big Bird's Adventure, or discover the oceans and the night sky with Kaluoka'hina: the Enchanted Reef. Touching the Edge of the Universe reveals how astronomers are learning about the Cosmos, and Dawn of the Space Age takes you from the beginning of human space exploration to the possible future. And Wonders of the Winter Sky is our chance to feature the beautiful starfield of the brand new Zeiss star projector and show you some of the bright stars, constellations and other celestial highlights of the current night sky.
Public shows are presented weekends throughout the school year and on some school holidays.

Enjoy this fantastic animated story about the world beneath the sea. Children join two adventurous fish on a mission to save their reef from destruction by "touching the moon." Along the way they learn about friendship, other sea creatures and the bigger ocean in which they live. Additionally, we will treat you to a brief tour of our night sky to find out about the moon and other things visible in the current evening sky. This is a fun and exciting adventure which sharpens our awareness to preserve our environment.
Recommended for ages 10 and under.
One World, One Sky: Big Bird's Adventure
Join Sesame Street’s Big Bird and Elmo as they explore the night sky with Hu Hu Zhu, a Muppet from the Chinese co-production of Sesame Street. Together, they take an imaginary trip to the moon, where they discover how different it is from Earth. Children can interact as they watch, drawing constellations and counting the time it takes the sun to set. In addition to the main presentation, we will also take some time to show children some of the bright stars, constellations and visible planets that they can see in the current night sky.Recommended for ages 7 and under.
Wonders of the Spring Sky
Join one of our knowledgeable Planetarium Presenters for a discussion of the current night sky. Beginning with the daytime sky, we discuss the Sun, our local star, before moving on to the evening sky. This ever-changing program explores the season’s constellations, bright stars, planets, deep sky objects and celestial highlights. Constellation mythology and recent space missions are also included. This is a great program for scout groups, camp groups and anyone wanting to get better acquainted with the sky.Recommended for ages 10 and over.
Touching the Edge of the Universe
Four hundred years after Galileo's revolutionary discoveries, two sophisticated satellites are launched into the universe. These complex space telescopes will look deep into space at distant events that our eye cannot see. They observe the birth of stars and planets and look back to the very beginning of time to reveal new knowledge of the universe.Recommended for ages 10 and over.
Dawn of the Space Age
Trace humanity's first steps into space through a look back at both the Russian and American ventures into the cosmos, from the launch of Sputnik tot he Shuttle program and missions to the outer planets. Then look ahead to the International Space Station, private space exploration ventures and beyond.Recommended for ages 10 and over.
