As a full-time student at Ocean County College, you will receive notification through your Ocean Cruiser email account in October and March giving you information about the next semester's registration process. You can find your faculty/department advisor's name through WebAdvisor and clicking "My Profile." The following steps are key to your success:

Step One: Planning
Step Two: Academic Advising
Step Three: Registration

The Student's Role: To make decisions concerning academic plans, to understand educational requirements, and to select suitable courses.

The Faculty Advisor's Role: To facilitate a student's exploration of academic plans, to clarify college requirements and important policies, and to assist in the selection of suitable courses.

The Academic Advising Process

  1. Each semester, you will be assigned to a school/department advisor.

  2. You will receive an email on Ocean Cruiser each semester reminding you to make an appointment with your school/department advisor.

  3. Each semester, it is your responsibility to schedule an appointment with your school/department advisor during scheduled office hours posted outside the faculty advisor's office. If you are unable to arrange an appointment with your faculty/department advisor, please contact the Administrative Assistant within your assigned departmental office. If you are uncertain of your faculty/department advisor, please contact Academic Advising Center at 732-255-0300.

  4. Understand your degree program requirements within the college catalog before meeting with your faculty/department advisor.

  5. Access NJ Transfer, a web-based resource for obtaining information on New Jersey's four-year college transfer programs of study. Click on "Plan Degree Program" to determine which OCC courses satisfy four-year college degree requirements.

  6. Use WebAdvisor to conduct a degree audit by clicking "Program Evaluation" to determine your progress in completing OCC degree requirements. After completing a degree audit, search for dates and times of courses you plan to register for during the next semester.

  7. Come to your faculty/department advisor appointment with your Program Evaluation and a tentative schedule of courses listed on your registration form.

  8. Be prepared to ask your faculty/department advisor questions and discuss career goals and transfer plans.
