Guide to the Transfer Process

Ocean County College is committed to helping students achieve their goals within higher education. The Academic Advising Office would like to assist you in successfully continuing your education to a four-year institution.
Colleges and universities look at several factors when determining eligibility for entrance and financial support such as grade point average and course selection at the previous institution. The easiest way to ensure a smooth transition is to begin the transfer process as soon as possible.
Here is an outline to assist you in the transfer process:
- Begin a dialog with Academic Advisors in order to choose a major appropriate to your goals.
- If you are undecided visit the college’s Career Center.
- A.A. and A.S. degrees are designed to transfer, A.A.S. degrees are not
- Attend transfer workshops and fairs
- Utilize resource tools for transfer including NJ Transfer, Petersons, and the State of NJ’s website for Higher Education.
- Ocean County College also has several partner schools, dual degree programs, and joint admissions with colleges/universities in NJ and around the tri-state area.
- Kean University representative are located on the OCC main campus with several baccalaureate degree options right here in Ocean County!
- Research institutions further by logging onto the website and contacting a transfer representative to discuss requirements, tour the campus, and meet with students and professors. Many schools have a specific transfer website with guidelines.
- It maybe helpful to keep a journal of your experiences
- Students may want to apply to several schools
- Out-of-State or specialized schools may require intense research to ensure easy transfer
- Fill out applications and financial aid paperwork at least 6 months in advance of the semester you would like to begin your studies.
- Online applications are quick and easy.
- Send all supporting documents based on institution’s requirements. This may include:
- Official transcripts (college and high school)
- SAT/ACT scores
- Letters of recommendation
- Essay
