Letters of Recommendation

These should be written by individuals who know you well. Relatives and friends are not acceptable for writing a reference letter.

Speak with your reference on a one-on-one basis (e.g. during a professor’s office hours).

Give the reference at least two weeks to prepare and write the letter.

Take care to ensure that they have an envelope with the correct address to mail your letter.

Remember that the letter has your personal information, if you would like to view the letter before it is sent, let the reference know ahead of time.
