Achieving Academic Success
Organization
will save your academic life!
1.
Get in
the habit
of using
a planner,
calendar,
or appointment
book.
2. Prioritize tasks on a daily, weekly, and
monthly basis.
3. Review your classroom notes and begin homework
assignments following the class meeting. Read
your textbook assignments and draft reading
notes within several days following the class
meeting.
4. Set realistic goals to accomplish each day,
week, month, and year.
5. ALWAYS keep copies of your completed papers
and assignments, in case of loss or damage.
Always back-up and save your work on a disk
or hard-drive.
6. Request assistance from your professor,
a classmate,
or tutor
when
course
material
appears difficult. When necessary, contact an
academic advisor to assist you.
7. Contact your professor(s) via e-mail or
by phone when you are going to be absent or
late. If you have already missed the class meeting,
contact your professor immediately.
8. Contact Health Services or Counseling
Services when medical or psychological situations
get in the way of attendance to class, e.g.,
death issues, major illness, mental health crisis,
coping issues, assistance to reduce classroom
stress, and other academic, social and
problems. DO NOT PROLONG GETTING HELP. DO IT
RIGHT AWAY. DO IT TODAY!
9. Do not throw your money down the drain by
not asking for help from any OCC staff, administrator,
or faculty member. We are here to provide a
service to you. You are the consumer, a client,
and our valued consumer. Ask us for help when
you need it!
10. Be prepared to enjoy life to the fullest
and be prepared to ask and receive assistance
to meet challenges. Greater awareness
can only be achieved if you believe in yourself.
