Project
Academic Skills Support (PASS) was established in 1987
at Ocean County College in order to provide support services
to students with learning disabilities. PASS is funded
by the New
Jersey Commission on Higher Education Special Needs Grant
and Ocean County College. It is one of New Jersey's eight
regional centers currently providing support services
for students with disabilities. Academic advisement, counseling
diagnostic evaluations, summer orientation and tutoring
are among the services that are offered. As a regional
center, PASS also provides training, assistance, and community
awareness activities for faculty and staff at other postsecondary
institutions, and PASS Staff participate in transition
programs at area high schools.
A specific learning disability has been defined as
a disorder in one or more of the basic processes involved
in the understanding or use of spoken or written language.
The disorder results in problems of listening, thinking,
reading, spelling or arithmetic. PASS services that

Eligibility for the PASS Program
In order to participate in the P.A.S.S. program, a
student must:
- Have a documented learning disability
- Be capable of college work
- Be motivated towards success
- Be interested in becoming and independent and active
learner
- Live in New Jersey (may be eligible for charge back)
Checklist for Applying to PASS
- Send in an Ocean
County College application.
- Call the PASS Program at (732) 255-0456 to arrange
an interview. This should be done as early as possible
before you enroll. High school students are encouraged
to apply at the beginning of their senior year.
- Make arrangements to take the Accuplacer Test. Call
the Testing Center at (732) 255-0400, ext. 2240, to
make an appointment.
- When you receive your Accuplacer scores, make an
appointment to schedule your classes at a DS/PASS
Orientation/Enrollment Program.
Deadline
Students starting OCC in the Fall semester should
complete their intake session and Accuplacer testing
by June 30. Space in PASS cannot be guaranteed past
July 15.
