What is the PASS program?
Project Academic Skills Support (PASS) was established in 1987 at Ocean County College in order to provide support services to students with learning disabilities. PASS is funded by the New Jersey Commission on Higher Education Special Needs Grant and Ocean County College. It is one of New Jersey's eight regional centers currently providing support services for students with disabilities.
What kind of services can the PASS program provide?
Academic accommodations, professional tutoring, peer mentoring, advising, orientation adaptive technology are among the many services that are offered through the PASS program. As a regional center for students with learning disabilities, PASS also provides training, assistance, and community awareness activities for faculty and staff at other post secondary institutions, and PASS Staff participate in transition programs at area high schools.
What is considered a learning disabilitiy?
A specific learning disability has been defined as a disorder in one or more of the basic processes involved in the understanding or use of spoken or written language. The disorder results in problems of listening, thinking, reading, spelling or arithmetic. Students starting OCC in the Fall semester should complete their intake session and Accuplacer testing by June 30. Space in PASS cannot be guaranteed past July 15.
