Who can receive tutoring?
Tutoring is available to all Ocean County College or Kean-Ocean students who are currently enrolled in courses, as well as other students in partnership with OCC.

Tutoring hours and locations vary by subject. Click on the links below for availability.
Is tutoring available at the Southern Education Center (SEC)?
Yes, for writing and math help.
Do I have to pay to get tutoring help?
No. Tutoring is free to all OCC students.
What subjects can I get help with?

How often may I be tutored in a certain subject?
This is up to the discretion of the tutoring centers. Please ask.

Do I have to make an appointment? If I do, how?
- The Writing Center: appointments strongly suggested; walk-in dependent on availability.
- The Mathematics Center: appointments available for specific times; walk-in all other times.
- Tutoring by Subject: walk-in only.
For appointment-based tutoring, arrive on time. Students who arrive late may forfeit their appointment.
How long does a tutoring appointment last?
- The Writing Center: 30 minutes
- The Mathematics Center: 20 minutes
- Tutoring by Subject: check with the tutor; Tutoring by Subject
I've never been tutored before. How do I prepare for a tutoring session?
To prepare, bring any assignment information, appropriate textbooks, and any work you have already done for the assignment. Bring questions, too. Make sure to arrive on time if you've made an appointment.
Who will be helping me?
Well-trained professionals, paraprofessionals and peer tutors provide tutoring in OCC's tutoring centers.
Can I get tutoring help online, by email, or by phone?
Students enrolled in Distance Learning (DL) courses have access to free tutoring through Smarthinking - these students should visit their eCollege homepage for more information. Otherwise, tutoring is available on-site only (not by email or phone).
Is The Writing Center for students enrolled in English classes only?
No. The Writing Center is available to all students who have papers for any subject, including, for example, STATS, COMM, HIST, PHIL, FILM, EDUC, SOCI, BUSN, etc. You may also come to The Writing Center for help with college transfer and application essays, scholarship essays, cover letters and resumes.
Is The Mathematics Center for students enrolled in Math classes only?
No. Students in any course that involves math, like Physics, Nursing and Engineering, are welcome to seek assistance at The Mathematics Center.
