Pharmacy Technician
Prepare to enter the pharmacy field as a technician working under the direction of a registered pharmacist in hospitals or community pharmacies. Course content will include medical terminology specific to the pharmacy, dosage calculations, reading and interpreting prescriptions, drug interactions, product recognition, defining drugs by generic and brand names, route of administration, and side effects. In addition, students will learn IV flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversion, and inventory control in the pharmacy. After completion of the course, students may sit for the national certification exam. High school diploma or GED required. Strong mathematics foundation suggested. Textbook required: Certification Review for Pharmacy Technicians (approx $102).
