The
New Jersey Uniform Construction Code requires
candidates for licensure as inspectors to complete
specific educational programs. Ocean County College
has received approval from the New Jersey Department
of Community Affairs (DCA) to offer these required
courses. Students who successfully complete a
course and have applied for licensing to become
an inspector, or presently hold an inspector's
license from DCA, can receive up to a 75% tuition
refund. For licensing requirements, please call
the DCA at
609. 984.7834, or visit their website at www.nj.gov/dca/codes/licensingunit.
Technical Licenses are issued in the areas of
building, fire protection, electrical and technical
assistant certification. Licenses are issued in
specialties: Residential and Small Commercial
(RCS), Industrial and Commercial (ICS) and High
Rise/Hazardous (HHS). RCS, ICS and HHS must be
taken in the appropriate sequence. Questions relating
to this can be directed to the Licensing Unit
at 609.984.7834. The RCS license applies only
to the building field.
Administrative Licenses are issued in the area
of Subcode and Construction Official. To obtain
this license, a person must hold a license in
any technical specialty. Individuals applying
for a license in technical areas are required
to take a national certification test and have
requisite experience in addition to the approved
course in the area, to fulfill the educational
requirement of licensure.
