Dental Assistant and Radiographic Technician

Dental Assistants are in very high demand right now.  Most doctors' offices are looking for dental assistants with an x-ray license to aid in patient care and treatment.  Students should take Introduction to Dental Assisting and Dental Radiographic Technician to learn all procedures necessary to function in a dental office.

Introduction to Dental Assisting has been designed to provide a complete foundation in the dental assisting field.  All phases of assisting will be addressed through a "hands-on" presentation of dental procedures, dental materials, and four-handed assisting techniques.  Textbook required: Essentials of Dental Assisting.   CEHS 126

Dental Radiography Technicians perform radiographic procedures, or x-rays, on dental patients for diagnostic purposes.  The State of New Jersey permits only individuals licensed by the New Jersey Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners to use x-rays on patients or to position patients for x-ray procedures.  To be licensed in the State of New Jersey, an applicant must meet the following pre-requisites:

(a)    Be at least 18 years of age,

(b)    Have a high school diploma or GED (copy must be submitted at registration),

(c)   Complete a dental radiography program that is accredited by the Board of Examiners, and

(d)    Pass either the Dental Assisting National Board's Radiation Health and Safety examination or the State of New Jersey's examination.

Students must complete all medical requirements and show proof of student liability insurance prior to participating in clinical practice. Clinical requirements will be provided at the first class. This program is fully accredited by the New Jersey Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners. Students satisfactorily completing the Dental Radiographic Technician program requirements will be provided an application for the New Jersey Dental Radiologic Technology Examination. Upon successfully passing this exam, students are eligible to apply to the Bureau of Radiologic Health for licensure. Textbooks required: Radiology for Dental Auxiliaries and Radiographic Pitfalls. CEHS 208-01
