The Endoscopy Assistant works directly with a physician and nurse in gastroenterology practice settings. The assistant is responsible for collecting patient data including vital signs, maintaining patient records, assisting during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, assuring and maintaining a sterile environment, and cleaning and maintaining equipment. Some endoscopic procedures in which the assistant may aid include colonoscopy, bronchoscopy, panendoscopy, percutaneous endoscopic gastrotomy (PEG), and endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography (ERCP).
