Harassment Policy
The New Jersey Small Business Development Center at Ocean County College is part of a national network of university/college-based centers that provide comprehensive counseling and educational opportunities to small business owners and potential owners. The New Jersey Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) network is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The New Jersey Small Business Development Centers, the leading provider of small business consulting and management services, is a non-profit, federal-state-educational partnership. Additional funding is provided through the New Jersey Economic Development Authority and Rutgers Business School: Graduate Programs - Newark and New Brunswick. 
Counseling services are provided at a no cost basis by private consultants, faculty, and SBDC staff.
Educational courses, workshops and conferences are designed to give managers, owners and potential owners the tools needed to analyze and resolve business problems and to keep informed of educational, financial, research and international trade developments.
We offer the following courses:
Financing A Small Business
Interested in starting a business or expanding and existing business? Need financial assistance? This workshop will address these issues by providing information on determining money needs. SBA loans, venture capital, working with local banks, use of a business plan to secure financing, services provided by the SBDC.
Business Start-Up Workshop
If you are an entrepreneur who is planning to start of has recently started a small business, this course is for you! Examine the legal forms of ownership, how to register the business, setting up bookkeeping records, taxation, and understanding financial statements, money needs, payroll, insurance and licensing.
A Business Plan
Even the most skeptical banker can be persuaded positively with a convincing business plan. Comprehensive plans include sales forecasts, market identification, resources, personnel, cash flow, and income projections. Learn how your finished plan should look, what's to be included, which language to use and what information to present and in what format your plans are clearly convincing.
Recordkeeping for Small Businesses
Gain an understanding of financial statements, including their development, use and effective methods of analysis. With hands-on instruction in business and accounting software, you will learn the general accounting cycle and how it reflects business transactions.
Marketing Strategies for Small Businesses
This course covers the complete marketing functions of a business. Learn about the marketing mix, target marketing and segmentation, types of competition, databases, and internal analysis. Identify how to position your business to develop a marketing plan that focuses on goals and strategies. Discover how to use numbers to effectively analyze the marketplace in creating valid pricing. Investigate how to build a customer marketing mix through advertising, promotions and sales. This seminar ties together all aspects of marketing into a usable format for growing companies.
