11 New FESHE-Aligned Fire Science Courses at Ocean County College
Fire Science is the study of firefighting techniques designed to confine, control, and extinguish fires. It also involves an understanding of related emergency services, fire department organization and management, fire prevention and protection, fire behavior, health and safety, fire investigation, among other vital aspects of the field.
Careers in Fire Science
Firefighting positions are often voluntary and, therefore, do not require a degree. However, paid job opportunities associated with Fire Science are available within the state and across the country. For those already working as firefighters, completion of Fire Science courses affords opportunities for advancement. Among the more specific careers within this field are Fire Marshall, Fire Investigator, Fire Inspector, and Smoke Jumper. Firefighters may also focus their careers in related fields such as emergency management, homeland security, and forensics.
Fire Science courses are offered in conjunction with a degree in Public Service.
