Learning a foreign language? Check out the new Oxford Language Dictionaries Online (OLDO), which features "comprehensive bilingual dictionaries and unique study materials. The OLDO offers over 4 million words, phrases and translations in French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, and Chinese, as well as native speaker audio pronunciation, click-through verb tables and pronunciation charts, explanations of grammatical terms," sample letters, notes on culture and more. Looking for the latest declassified information on Homeland Security? The Homeland Security Digital Library, a restricted database provided by the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) and the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) offers thousands of reports, hearings, testimony, analysis and media for a wide variety of Homeland Security related topics - everything from terrorism and border security to climate change and immigration. You can access this exciting new database through the Find Articles link on the library's main page. Please note: this is a restricted database that will ONLY be accessible from the OCC Library computers. This database is not available for off-campus access, nor in other OCC buildings or campus affiliates.

The Library now offers the JSTOR Arts and Sciences II collection of journals, a companion set to the Arts and Sciecnes I collection previously offered. Students of Ocean County College now have access to JSTOR's Art and Sciences Collection I. JSTOR is an archive of hundreds of scholarly journals, often dating back to the first volume of some publications. This resource will be an incredible asset to our faculty and students doing scholarly research.

This year's Nobel Prize winners have been announced; the writer Doris Lessing has been named the 2007 Nobel Laureate for Literature and Al Gore has won the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. The library has many of their books in the collection; use the catalog to search for their works by performing an "author" search for either Lessing or Gore. September 21 is the United Nations International Day of Peace. In honor of this day, the Global Education Task Force is sponsoring several events this month highlighting Peace Cultures and Religions of the World. Everyone is invited to attend. There will also be programming sponsored by the Center for Peace, Genocide, and Holocaust Studies in the Solar Lounge on the 21st from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

With the help of Professor Linda Caltagirone, the Nursing Research Guide has been updated with a series of new websites to help students studying in the Allied Health field. Websites on dilution theory, understanding and reading EKGs, clinical lab testing, and evaluating online health resources have been added.

The Library's hours will be changing for the summer semester. We will be open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays, and closed Saturdays and Sundays. Please check the Hours and Calendar page for updates.
