Cross Country Teams Finish Strong at the NJCAA National Championships

The Ocean County College Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams competed at the NJCAA National Cross Country Championship on November 14, 2011 at Stanley Park in Westfield, Massachusetts. 

After winning the Region XIX crown and finishing 2nd in the Garden State Athletic Conference, the OCC Women’s Cross Country Team finished as the 3rd place team in the nation in the 5k NJCAA National Championship Race.  Amanda Farina (3rd – 19:21.67), Samantha Farina (9th – 19:53.07), and Stephanie Paluchowski (12th – 19:59.44) were named NJCAA All-Americans for their tremendous performances.  Theresa Messano (44th – 21:56.05), Jaclyn Rizzo-Cascio (45th – 22:09.07), and Mary Meliti (73rd – 24:03.08) rounded out the Vikings team with strong finishes and personal bests. 

After a successful season winning Region XIX and the Garden State Athletic Conference, the OCC Men’s Cross Country Team finished as the 6th place team in their 8k NJCAA National Championship Race.  The team was led by Haroldas Subertas (17th – 27:27.93) and Raymond Newman (18th – 27:28.65) who both finished in the top 20 at the championships.  Nico Spadavecchia (45th – 28:44.98), Jason Huey (52nd – 28:58.71), Chris Keghlian (93rd – 30:39.14), and John Harris (133rd – 33:26.42) rounded out the Viking team with solid performances.
