Women’s Soccer Finishes 3rd in the Nation
The Ocean County College Women’s Soccer Team competed in the NJCAA National Soccer Championship Tournament from November 2 – 5, 2011 hosted by Tompkins Cortland Community College. The team won their first game against Mountain View, Texas 2-1 in overtime in dramatic fashion. Taylor Mize scored two goals in the game to lead the Vikings to victory. In the national semi-finals the Vikings played Monroe, New York and despite a number of key opportunities the team couldn’t find the back of the net and lost 1-0. The Vikings rounded out their tournament with an impressive 3-0 win over Rochester, Minnesota in the 3rd place game. Samantha Franco, Rachel Marino, and Stephanie Torode all recorded goals in the game to clinch the 3rd place finish for the team.
Taylor Mize and Rachel Marino were named to the NJCAA All-National Tournament Team for their excellent play. The Vikings finish the season with an impressive 19-2-1 record.
