OCC Golf Team Wins 2010 Region XIX Championship and Finishes 11th at Nationals

After winning the 2010 Garden State Athletic Conference regular season championship by finishing first in all regular season tournaments, the Ocean County College Golf Team Competed May 10th and 11th, 2010 at Cape May National Golf Course in the Region XIX Championships. After a tough two days, the team came in 1st place posting a two day total score of 661. For the team’s success, Head Coach Kevin Beirne was named Region XIX Coach of the Year on top of being named Garden State Athletic Conference Coach of the Year the week prior.
Brian Oldham led the way by shooting a 77 on the first day and an 84 on the second earning him a 2nd place individual finish for the tournament. Adam Anton shot an 83 and 79 respectively and was the 4th place individual golfer at the tournament. Steve Kezel shot an 85 and an 83 earning him 7th place overall finish. Brian, Adam, and Steve were all named to the All-Region XIX Golf team for their excellent performances on the course at the Region Tournament. Brian Oldham was recognized this season as he tied for shooting the lowest score of 75 in the Conference Championship and is presently ranked among the top 10 in the nation for individual round average and lowest season score. For his effort in the Conference Championship Brian was named to the Garden State Athletic Conference Team First Team.
The team went on to participate at the NJCAA National Golf Tournament in Chautauqua, NY from June 7 to 11th 2010 and finished in 11th place overall.
For the first time OCC also had an individual female golfer compete at the Women's National Championship in Daytona, Florida. Sungeon Song practiced with the Men's team all season and went on to finish 55th at the NJCAA Women's Golf National Championships.
