Ocean County College Plays First Game on New Home Turf
TOMS RIVER, NJ - Ocean County Stadium on the campus of Ocean County College in Toms River NJ opened for its first game on September 8, 2011 as the NJCAA # 1 ranked Women’s Soccer Team the Vikings of Ocean County defeated Bucks County Community College 6-1. The Ocean County College Men’s Soccer Team is scheduled to play their first home match on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 2:00 pm vs County College of Morris. The college will be celebrating the new facility with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Monday, September 26th at 1:30 pm. OCC Head Women’s Soccer Coach/Assistant Athletic Director A.J. Trump and the Head Mens Soccer Coach Kirk Pericciuoli remarked, “The AstroTurf gives the players a high tech and top shelf surface to play on and we are very excited for our games.”With all the recent poor weather in the northeast many teams have had to postpone and reschedule matches. The new turf stadium has held up well to the weather and has been playable despite all the poor weather in the area. Athletic Director, Ilene Cohen stated; Every student-athlete I’ve spoken to is excited to have the opportunity to play on such an exceptional field!” Later this Fall Ocean County College will host the NJCAA Region XIX Men’s and Women’s Championships on Oct 29 – 30 at the new stadium.
