Women's Soccer Wins Region XIX and GSAC Championship

For the fourth straight year the OCC Women’s Soccer Team won the Region XIX and Garden State Athletic Conference Championships. The Vikings entered the Region XIX Tournament as the favorite and defeated Gloucester County College 2-1 in overtime to capture the title at Ocean County Stadium on October 29, 2011.
The Vikings went down 1-0 on a great shot by Gloucester 25 minutes into the game. The team never gave up as Elizabeth Lawler tied the game with 6 minutes to go in the first half on a long range blast to the lower left corner. The game remained tied after regulation and had to be decided in sudden victory overtime. The Vikings leading scorer Taylor Mize stepped up 6 minutes into overtime and scored off a cross by Carol Ann Carlson to seal the win for Ocean County College. Taylor Mize was named Offensive Player of the Game for her strong play. She currently leads the nation in points (70) and goals (31) this season.
The Vikings have had a number of players recognized this year for their outstanding play during the season. Taylor Mize, Rachel Marino, Elizabeth Lawler, Carly Loverde, and Chrissy Stergiou were all named to the 2011 All-Region XIX Team. Taylor Mize was named Region XIX Player of the Year for having the highest number of votes during the All-Region Balloting Process and the A.J. Trump and Caitlin Toomey were named Region XIX and Garden State Athletic Conference Coaches of the Year.
The Vikings have been ranked #1 in the NJCAA National Poll for 8 straight weeks and are undefeated in NJCAA Division III play with an overall record of 17-1-1. The Vikings will now travel to Tompkins Cortland Community College to participate in the NJCAA National Championship Tournament from November 3 to 6, 2011.
