OCC Sailing Team Finishes Fourth in the MASIA Club Championships

Sunday, November 8, 2009 - The Ocean County College Sailing team surprised the teams in the Masia Conference by finishing fourth and fifth in the Club Championships. OCC and Toms River Yacht Club hosted the two day Championship regatta. On Saturday eighteen races were sailed. On Sunday, with light winds, eight races were sailed.  The races were sailed in 420’s. Rochester Institute of Technology was unable to attend, and with this opening OCC sailed a second team. Racing for Ocean County in the A division were Tyler Kennedy (Pine Beach) and his crew Sarah Salter (Toms River), and Holden Muehleisen (Tuckerton), and his crew Autumn Hoover (Lanoka Harbor). Sailing in the B division were Brad Wright (Lavallette) and his crew Jamie Wasco (Brick), and Derek Douglas (Seaside) with his crew members, Emi Bowden (Brick), Kristin Kilar (Brick) and Breanna Bruns (Pine Beach)

The race judges on the water were Drew Seibert, June Kingman, Harry Foote, Jim Walsh, and Chris Petracco. The Principle Race Officer was Greg Matzat with mark set Matt Geotting.

The Toms River Yacht Club has been very supportive of the OCC program hosting all the OCC regattas in the past five years.
