MISSION UNITED is supporting veterans and their families in Broward County by helping them re-acclimate to civilian life, supporting veteran empowerment and promoting their self-sufficiency. All our services are free to veterans and we focus on the following six areas:
- Employment & Career Development
- Education – Including Mentorship
- Health – Accessing Health Care after Active Duty
- Legal assistance
- Financial Services – Budget Counseling and Short-Term Assistance
- Housing – Eliminating Homelessness
The goal of our Mentoring Program is to recruit, screen, and train mentors that will foster a safe and trusting environment where student veteran mentees, over time, feel comfortable sharing their aspirations as well as the challenges they’re facing in reaching their goals. Mentorship will have positive impact in multiple ways for these young veterans and their mentors alike:
- Dialogue that supports and empowers the mentees
- Provide knowledge from a mentors learned experience
- Have younger veterans realize their potential and discover their strengths
- Offer the mentees the opportunity to network and engage
- Build competence and confidence, and
- Make their transition to civilian life a smoother one
