Ocean County College Nursing Graduates Honored At Pinning

One hundred twenty-eight (128) students from the Ocean County College Nursing Class received their nursing pins at the Annual Nurses Pinning Ceremony on Tuesday, May 23 at 7:00 p.m. in the Jay and Linda Grunin Center for the Arts, Ocean County College Main Campus, College Drive, Toms River, NJ.  The graduates completed the two-year course of study leading to an Associate in Applied Science degree in Nursing during December 2016 and May 2017.

The Ceremony was broadcast LIVE on Ocean TV 20 on Comcast of Toms River and Long Beach Island Channel 20 and Verizon FiOS of Northern Ocean County Channel 24, as well as on the College’s website, www.ocean.edu.  Repeat broadcasts will be televised on Ocean TV 20 on Wed, May 24 at 12 midnight and 8pm; Sat, May 27 at 7pm; Sun, May 28 at 2pm; and Mon, May 29 at 3pm.  It will also be available online.

During the ceremony, Nursing Graduate Awards were presented:         

  • Community Medical Center Award: Carissa Basso (Jackson) and Candace LaFonte (New Egypt)
  • New Jersey League for Nursing Award: William Wexler (Point Pleasant)

Dedications were printed in the Pinning Ceremony program including the following:

  • Adam Fayed (Jackson) “I would like to dedicate my pin to my supportive family who continues guiding me and to the care of those who will come my way.”
  • Candace LaFonte (New Egypt) “I would like to dedicate my pin to my grandmother Anne who always wanted to be a nurse.  I hope I have made her proud upon my graduation from nursing school.”
  • Katelyn Mulrooney (Manahawkin) “I would like to dedicate my pin to anyone who ever thought they could not make it through this program.  You did it!  You were born to move mountains, go shine your light!”
  • Sandee Shepherd (Point Pleasant) “I would like to dedicate my pin in loving memory of my little brother, Dale, who thought it would be ‘pretty cool’ to help others.  I love you.”
  • William Wexler (Point Pleasant) “I would like to dedicate my pin to my father Howard Townsend.  The whole family misses you.  Could not have done it without you.”
  • Jessica Zollner (Pine Beach) “I would like to dedicate my pin to my sister Mary.  Never imagined we would be doing this together but I’m so happy we did.  We made it!”  Mary Zollner (Toms River) “I would like to dedicate my pin to Jessica.  I would not have been able to do it without you.  To Nanny for telling me to never give up on my dreams.”
