1,200 First Graders to Take a Trip to “Janet’s Planet” with Help from Local Corporate Sponsors

Twelve hundred (1,200) students from across Toms River Regional School District first grade classes will attend special presentations of “Janet’s Planet: A Tour through the Solar System” at the Jay and Linda Grunin Center for the Arts at Ocean County College, Toms River.

Donors for the Thursday, January 18 shows include the Ocean County College Foundation, Mathnasium of Toms River, The Office (Restaurant & Lounge, Toms River), Law Offices of Bradley D. Billhimer, LLC (Toms River), Brilliant Environmental Services, LLC (Toms River), and Lenahan & Rockwell, P.A. (Bridgewater).

One hundred 4th graders from George J. Mitchell Elementary School, Little Egg Harbor, will also attend as part of a pilot art integration program through the MindAligned collective impact initiative with the Count Basie Theatre (Red Bank) and the Grunin Center for the Arts. MindAligned creates arts-rich schools and communities throughout Monmouth and Ocean counties.

“Janet’s Planet” is an educational children’s show broadcast on 144 public television stations nationwide. Young fans will be given a virtual tour around the solar system from Janet’s futuristic mission control. This interactive presentation engages and challenges students and is designed to inspire STEM potential in elementary school-age children in Grades 1-5. “Janet’s Planet” meets Common Core Standards.

Participating elementary schools will be treated to live performances, free-of-charge, at 9:30 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 1:00 p.m.

This event is not open to the general public.
