This course will focus on the history, anthropology and culture of the indigenous Maya people living within the Yucatan Peninsula. It will provide personal contact with the culture including exploration of Maya archaeological sites, contemporary Maya villages, Spanish colonial towns and cities, and the local ecological settings. Students will gain insight to Maya life, past and present, including change and continuity in art and architecture, ritual practices, social organization, and daily customs.
