MIDDLE EASTERN STUDIES – Certificate of Proficiency–TOTAL CREDITS 37 cr.

The Middle Eastern Studies Certificate of Proficiency allows students to complete the Certificate by selecting courses from a range of offerings based on their interest and transfer needs.  These courses prepare students to transfer to baccalaureate programs with majors in global studies, international politics, international business, foreign relations, and other related fields.  The following template of course selections for the first three semesters is intended as an example of courses that might be taken to achieve the Certificate of Proficiency while simultaneously fulfilling many of the requirements for the AA degree.

Study Abroad/Internship

Given the importance of the Arab world and North Africa these days, we need to provide our students with an introduction to the Middle East North African region through a program that allows them to learn about a culture and be immersed in the culture experience first-hand. The opportunity to hear a language daily will help students who enter the course with some classroom experience in Arabic and will encourage and build the confidence of those for whom Arabic is a new experience. During the Summer Sessions, OCC offers various Study Abroad opportunities. For more information, visit the Study Abroad webpage.
