Our Living Shore Discovery: Hands-on Science Camp Northern Edition Age 9-13

CPE offers another fun-filled adventure for your child who loves science. It’s also centered on the NJ Science Standards and gives your child the advantage in the classroom upon returning to school in September. It’s a science adventure like our original Living Shore Discovery Camp where we go on field trips 4 of the 5 days. We us a hands-on approach to convey science concepts to your son/daughter. We teach all science topics utilizing a combination of language arts/writing skills. We spend the first day in the classroom in order to prepare for our field trips to Allaire State Park for observation of backyard birds, hawks, ducks and the exploration of a hardwood forest and a wetlands area. Our second day we visit the John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge, a 1000 acre National Wildlife Refuge. Wow! Here we spend time with a National Park Ranger and participate in different science activities. Next up is Assunpink Wildlife Management Area for our 3rd field trip, which was purchased under the Green Acres Program. Here we explore the grasslands, lakes, and wetlands looking for an array of wildlife. Campers may bring fishing poles on this day to use during lunch. Our last day, we go to Cheesequake State Park or Sandy Hook National Recreation Area. At either area, we observe backyard birds, shore birds/wading birds, hawks, and ospreys. Both areas are surrounded by wetlands in addition to a maritime forest. Different activities are subject to change due to severe weather conditions. Please bring a lunch, plenty of water, sunscreen, towel, camera, binoculars, hiking boots, water shoes, and money for souvenirs.
