Campers learn to program a robot to overcome daily class challenges using visual & text-based programming. They see firsthand how their program translates into action as they attempt to control their robot sensors and maneuver around obstacles. With their teammate, they apply different coding concepts while using the scientific method to formulate, observe, experiment, test, and modify their robot. Campers work in teams for most of the program. Campers do not need prior experience.

Watch as holograms come to life in the first, ever augmented reality for kids! Campers work in cutting-edge software to create holographic scenes that are viewable with a smartphone & a magic futuristic cube. Campers’ original projects are available on the password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Campers work in pairs/teams for most of the program. There is an additional $19 lab fee for the magic cube and license.

Campers take the first steps into the world of mobile app design and customize their own game app! Using a specialized app & game development tool, they explore the world of web-based HTML5 mobile apps. Besides learning the basics of mobile app design & game development, campers see firsthand how the world of App publishing functions. Campers’ apps are accessible on a private site and may be played on any mobile device/computer. Publishing to the App Stores is not included. Campers do not need to own a smartphone/tablet. Campers work in pairs/teams for most of the program. Returning campers create advanced projects that build on previous years.

Fans of Fortnite we need you! Instead of playing the game, campers design their own. Using professional 3D game development software, they build levels and assets inspired by popular Battle Royale games like Fortnite. Campers get cartoonish action and battle sequences. NEW eSports Apprentice-YouTube Streamers & Gamers Age 8-14

For the next pro gamer, streamer, or gamecaster our camp teaches the basics to get started! No longer just a hobby, eSports is the fastest growing career for the next generation. Over 400 million people watched YouTube videos and Twitch streams of video game competitions this year alone! In our camp, campers develop competitive game-play skills in Black Rocket’s new eSports App, learn how to produce commentary for live tournaments, use professional streaming software, and most importantly practice online safety. They gain full access to the eSports App and a video of their class tournament with commentary. We do not broadcast videos publicly but they are shared with all campers in the class.

Make Your First 3-D Video Game! Age 8-14

In this Black Rocket classic, campers go well beyond the limitations of the traditional 2D game design classes and create an immersive 3D world. They learn the physics behind 3D games and explore beginner event scripting, level design, controlling the flow of gameplay, and storytelling. Campers’ games are available on the password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Campers work in pairs/teams for most of the program.

Minecraft Modders Age 8-14

Campers use their favorite game to learn the basics of modding and foundations of programming. They learn scripting and logic statements while creating their first mods! We teach introductory coding through a simulated environment inspired by Minecraft. Campers’ original projects are available on the password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Campers work in pairs/teams for most of the program. Returning campers create advanced projects that build on previous years. REQUIRED: Campers must own a Java version of Minecraft. Tablet, phone, and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible.
