Recovery Views

Join OCC’s Counseling Center and Recovery Support Program, the Addictions Studies Program, Hope Sheds Light, and the DART Prevention Coalition for a month-long exploration of recovery and individuals living through it. Each session explores various topics promoting education, awareness, prevention, and recovery from addiction.

Monday, April 19
2-3 p.m.

Join us for the panel discussion, “I am Your Neighbor, Coworker, Friend: A Panel Discussion with Individuals in Recovery,” to learn about the impacts of addiction and recovery on the family. Our panelists will share both the challenges and joys of their journeys. If addiction or recovery has touched your life, your family’s life, or perhaps you worry it will – you need to hear their stories.

Wednesday, April 21
1-2 p.m.

Attend the 30 minute summit session, “What is Recovery Anyway?” geared towards high-school-aged youth and college students. The discussion breaks down the principles of recovery, different pathways to recovery, and how to support friends, peers, and family.

This presentation is designed for high school and college students.

Monday, April 26
1-2 p.m.

The Society for Prevention of Teen Suicide will host a discussion, “Taking Care of Ourselves and Friends,” teaching young adults to identify struggles within themselves or friends, warning signs when someone may need help, identifying a trusted adult, finding the words to have tough conversations, and the steps we can take to ask for help and cope with the 2021 world!

This presentation is designed for high school and college students.

Thursday, April 29
7-8:15 p.m.

We will host a screening of the documentary Gateway, a story of how surgery and opioids transformed the lives of three families. After watching the documentary, we will hear from community organizations including the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and the RWJBarnabas Health System.

For more information about the film and to watch a trailer, visit https://www.planagainstpain.com/gateway/
