If you are searching for an item and the OCC Library does not have it, the Library can still provide access through our Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service. ILL service allows OCC Library users to borrow materials—both physical and digital—from thousands of other public and academic libraries across the country.
Interlibrary Loan Service
- The best way to place an ILL request is directly from the OCC Library Online Catalog when viewing a specific item. This will automatically fill out the request form with information about your item.
- You can find step-by-step instructions on how to place these requests here.
- If you’re unable to find what you’re looking for in our Online Catalog, you can also place an ILL request with this generic form.
- Current OCC students, faculty, and staff.
- Current Kean Ocean students, faculty, and staff.
- Other library users are encouraged to contact their local public library for ILL assistance.
- Items not already owned or otherwise accessible through the OCC Library.
- Physical materials can be picked up at the Access Services desk in the OCC Library (Building # 3).
- Articles and book chapters are delivered electronically.
- Entire eBooks cannot be requested via ILL—only a specific chapter can be delivered digitally. If you require more than a specific chapter, please request a physical copy of the book via ILL.
- Current textbooks are generally not available through ILL.
- For some digital materials, delivery may be as fast as a few days.
- For physical materials and others, please allow at least two weeks for the request to be filled.
- Turnaround time may be affected by scarcity of sources, distance of sources, holidays and weekends, or incomplete information about the requested item.
- The status of ILL requests can be viewed in your library account within the OCC Library Online Catalog.
- Please check your institutional email for all official library communications.
- It can vary. The loan period is determined by the library sending the item to OCC (called the “lending library”).
- For digital items, there is usually both a time limit and an access limit. For example, you might be able to access the digital file up to five times for up to 30 days.
- Renewals are determined by the lending library and not by the OCC Library. You can request a renewal in your library account within the OCC Library Online Catalog by clicking the blue “Renew Request” button next to your item.
- You can also reach out to the Library for more information at ill@ocean.edu.
- Any item you pick up at the OCC library must be returned to the OCC Library. Please do not return ILL items directly to the lending library.
- Kean Ocean students, faculty, and staff may use the OCC ILL service to request books not owned by either the Kean University or the OCC libraries.
- First-time Kean Ocean users of the OCC ILL service can use the following forms to request a Book or an Article. These forms should only be used by first-time Kean Ocean users.
- Kean Ocean users may also request materials held at the Kean University Library in Union to be delivered to the Ocean County College Library in Toms River. To request a book owned by the Kean University Library, please use this form.
- The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material
- Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement.
- This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of Copyright Law.
- Due to copyright laws, the OCC library can only request 5 articles from the same publication (within its last 5 years of print) per calendar year.
