Voted Musician of the Year at the Scots Trad Music Awards 2023, and with a career spanning several studio albums and numerous high-profile collaborations, her ‘crystalline’ and ‘intoxicating’ vocals have enchanted audiences around the world.

Julie is best known for her work on the theme songs to Disney Pixar’s award-winning film Brave. A BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards winner for ‘Folk Singer of the Year,’ she has performed at prestigious venues worldwide, from Carnegie Hall to the Mozart Concert Hall in Vienna to the World Festival of Sacred Music in Fez, Morocco. Career highlights include singing at the closing ceremony of the 2012 Ryder Cup to 500 million TV viewers and the opening ceremony of the 2014 Glasgow XX Commonwealth Games to a TV audience of over 1 billion viewers. With over 200 million streams on Spotify alone, her voice has reached audiences from village halls in the Highlands to outer space, featured on an official NASA astronaut playlist.

A versatile artist and natural collaborator, Julie has worked with renowned musicians, including James Taylor, KT Tunstall, and Chris Thile, and served as vocal coach for DreamWorks’ How to Train Your Dragon 3. She currently performs with the folk supergroup Spell Songs and has contributed her voice to bestselling projects such as the video game Assassins Creed Valhalla and Penguin Audiobooks. As Scotland’s inaugural National Gaelic Ambassador and holder of an honorary Doctorate of Music, she represents Scottish culture on the global stage, including her role as the Scottish Gaelic voice for the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights Project, which aims to record the declaration in every language worldwide.
